What is IV ozone therapy?

IV ozone therapy, also called major autohaemotherapy, takes ozone's effect beyond a single joint. Ozone is mixed with a small amount of your own blood outside the body, then the blood is returned through a drip.

In the blood, ozone reacts in seconds and is used up, leaving behind messenger molecules that are thought to prompt the body's own antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immune responses.

  • Your own bloodNothing is added except medical ozone. No drugs, no steroids.
  • Whole-body approachOften used alongside physiotherapy and ozone injections as part of a wider recovery plan.
  • Built up graduallyWe start gently and build up over a course of sessions.

IV ozone is safe when it is done properly. The safety research is clear about what properly means, and we follow it at every session.1

What the research says

Research into IV ozone is at an earlier stage than for ozone injections, and we'd rather tell you that straight.

Early studies are encouraging. In one study of 72 people with long-standing fibromyalgia who hadn't responded to other treatment, average pain scores fell from 7.8 to 4.8 out of 10 after a course of IV ozone, with improvements in daily function and quality of life.2

That study had no comparison group, and larger controlled trials are still needed. On your complimentary call we'll be honest about what IV ozone can and can't be expected to do for you.

For pain in a specific joint, tendon or the back, ozone injections have the strongest evidence.

What is autohaemotherapy?

Autohaemotherapy means treatment using your own blood. In IV ozone therapy, a small amount of your blood is mixed with medical ozone and returned to you through a drip.

Does it hurt?

It feels much like giving blood: a small needle in the arm, then you sit back and relax while the treatment runs.

How long does a session take?

Allow up to two hours for each visit, including preparation and time to rest afterwards.

Is IV ozone safe?

Serious side effects are rare when a proper protocol is followed. That's why we check everyone's health first, use controlled concentrations and sterile single-use equipment, and return your blood slowly with a clinician present.

Who isn't suitable for IV ozone?

IV ozone isn't suitable for everyone, including during pregnancy. We check your suitability on your complimentary call and again before your first session.

Who gives the treatment?

Peter Hartley and Craig Hartley, HCPC registered physiotherapists, certified medical ozone clinicians and trained phlebotomists.
